Starobin and Blanc Counseling Services extend all of their services from the philosophy that no one functions entirely alone in the world. We believe that the simple, easily stated idea that everyone comes from some sort of family system in fact describes every complex and uniquely individual experience in life.

As counselors, we do not impose ideas on clients: we help clients: we help clients recognize issues and refine their own lives. The kinds of problems that people bring into our offices vary greatly, reflecting the significant range of human experience and human interaction. From relationship issues, to questions of identity, to grief and loss, we believe that each person experiences his or her life through a lens shaped by lifetimes of other human experiences.

Hence our focus on marriage and family therapy, families of all types form the core of most people's human interaction. "Families" as an idea have a power that extends beyond simple definition of mother, father, brother and sister. The idea of family speaks to those groups we create ourselves - from our closest friends, to larger cultural metaphors.

In addition to the areas of expertise listed, we also have specialized training in Refugee Mental Health, with important experience working with refugees from Europe, Africa and South East Asia.
